Designing the Smillon humidifier was an exploration in balancing simplicity with subtle character. The aim was to create a product that fits seamlessly into any space, offering both functionality and a touch of elegance without drawing undue attention to itself.
The concept behind the design focused on creating a sense of calm and understated sophistication. I aimed for a form that feels pure, with every element serving a purpose. The design had to be neutral yet engaging, where the details quietly enhance the overall experience without overpowering it. The contrast in finishes and materials was intended to bring depth and interest, while the clean lines and smooth transitions were meant to evoke a feeling of harmony and balance.
The design journey began with a wide array of sketches, exploring various forms and concepts. Gradually, the focus narrowed to a cylindrical shape with gentle curves at the base and a tapering diameter. These subtle adjustments brought a dynamic quality to the form. Physical mockups and 3D models were crucial in fine-tuning these details, allowing for hands-on evaluations and refinements.
The result of this thoughtful process is the Smillon humidifier—a product that embodies refined simplicity. It’s sophıstıcated yet approachable, blending seamlessly into its surroundings while offering users a satisfying and understated experience.
